summer arts!

Next year is going to be my last year of college... EEEK! but that also means that I get to work on stuff for an art show! Yay! :D My idea is to do illustrations of Biblical people in Victorian fashions. because I can... and other reasons too, but that's what I'm sharing so far :)
The first piece I've been working on is eventually going to be a diptych of Adam and Eve.At the moment it's only Eve, but her hubby will join her. This was done using india ink on bristol board. Fun fact: India ink is awesome!!! seriously though, I've never legitimately used it for inking, i usually use my handy-dandy side kicks, pigma micron pens, but this stuff CRAZY FANTASTIC! you just need some incredibly thin brushes, and presto!
unmatted, uncropped, unframed, and still in the process of being worked on :)

So that's in progress project number one, project number 2 is a little something i like to call, "Noah and Nessie." It is a 3 color lino-block print. As of right now, I'm not entirely satisfied with it (I'm thinking that the blue on Noah's hat is unnecessary) but it's only a baby :)

Block 1

Block 2

Block 3

The first print of all 3 blocks, on newsprint... because i'm a poor artist and i only wanted to see what it would look like :)

NOAH!!! :D

The Plesiosaur

So there's still a lot of growing up to do before i can begin making editions. I have a bunch of pictures here... I tried to take pictures of my process, for future reference. An d that's what I've been working on since i got home from Olivet. woot!

Now to finishing these and move on to the next project!

creating for the Creator

Christians in the Visual Arts (a.k.a CIVA) is an organization that provides resources, inspiration, and opportunities for visual artists who want to marry their art with their faith. WHAT!? How long has this existed... and why am I just finding out about it now?! Well, logically, I’m only finding out about it now because I’ve only just recently become interested (read: proactive) about illustration as a possible career… This is another organization that provides great stuff for freelancers.  More than that, however, it is a great inspiration at how to uncompromisingly follow Christ as an artist in the world. Check it out! J

Illustration Friday! Partying, partying, YEAH!

This is an illustration I did for this week's Illustration Friday. The word of the week is "yield." I used the "to produce" definition as inspiration for  my drawing. Lately, I have been reading, hearing, and talking about gardens, so my first thought was the relation of a gardener to his/her yield and this is what resulted.
'Tis a balancing act, no?

So, we meet again...

look it's me! and a tree!
Hello! I am preparing for an internship this summer in freelance illustration so I've been on the laptop a lot today, making a business card design, researching, etc. So...... I thought I would put a self portrait up here on the blogosphere :) This was done in marker on cardstock as a part of the self-promo self-porrait project in my illustration class. My inspiration for this piece was Aubrey Beardsley. If you don't know who that is, then you should read/skim Black & White: A Portrait of Aubrey Beardsley by Brigid Brophy. And that's what I have to say about that! :)
